Sam Tarry was elected Member of Parliament for the constituency of Ilford South on 12 December 2019.

Having grown up in Ilford, Sam is well attuned to the needs of the community he serves and he works to advance social cohesion and support some of the most vulnerable members of the public.

Sam’s campaign in Ilford South in 2019, drew support from right across the community and saw him elected with over 65% share of the vote and a majority of 24,101 votes.

After being elected to Parliament, Sam was appointed to the Transport Select Committee, on which he has been credited as being a “passionate advocate for public ownership”.

 

From 2009 to 2011, Sam Tarry was the Chairman of Young Labour, the youth wing of the Labour Party. Sam Tarry went on to be active in anti-fascism, including working as a Community Organiser for Hope not Hate.

Sam served as a Labour Party councillor for Chadwell Heath ward, in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, from 2010 to 2018.

From 2016, Sam worked as the national political officer for the TSSA trade union, and served as the president of the think tank Centre for Labour and Social Studies (CLASS).
